While Leighton Meester’s “Somebody to Love” single and its Robin Thicke-starring music video have been in heavy rotation, the “Gossip Girl” star isn’t quite ready to drop her debut album.

“You know, it’s weird — I’m still writing. I’m about to start a movie that’s all about country music, so I’m definitely trying to keep them separated ’cause I really am starting to grasp a hold of that and I really love it,” she told MTV News at KIIS-FM’s Jingle Ball concert in Los Angeles over the weekend, adding that she expects her long-simmering LP to drop in early 2010.

On the red carpet at the Emmys, the 23-year-old Gossip Girl actress spilled that the first single from her much-anticipated album will be a collaboration with R&B crooner Robin Thicke. The song’s title has not yet been released but it sounds like it could be a hot song.

Jesse McCartney is working with Leighton for her new album, this is gonna be awesome.

Jive Records just reached out to me last week and they want me to write for David Archuleta’s new album. I’ve been writing with Toni Braxton and Leighton Meester, who’s been working on a record. It’s opened a lot of people’s eyes in the industry, too. It’s definitely a great feeling to be recognized and to be asked to work with their artists.”

EW recently caught up with Gossip Girlstar Leighton Meester in the recording studio, where she’s working on her still-unnamed debut album, due this fall (her first single is slated for July). The actress, who’s best known for her bitchy-one liners as Blair Waldorf, says the album will have an electro-pop sound, and she’s working with producers like Kenna (Lupe Fiasco, JoJo) and Polow da Don (The Pussycat Dolls, Fergie). “It’s very pop,” she says. “You can listen to it on the radio. You can listen to it in your car. You can dance to it.”

Meester offered us an exclusive listen to three of the album’s potential tracks. “Push and Pull” is an elegant anthem about making a relationship work; she says the song “takes my breath away.” On “Almost Perfect,” she takes a break from electro-pop for a stripped-down ballad lamenting a lover’s lies. The song ends with Meester bluntly spitting, “F— you.” “That was what we call an adlib,” she says. Then there’s the pulsing “Lights Out,” produced by J.R. Rotem (Britney Spears), which has her singing very un-CW things like, “Don’t turn the lights out/I bet you like to watch.” Meester plays coy when it comes to the subject matter. “Who knows what I’m talking about? Everything is kinda in metaphors.” Maybe, we ask, she simply wants someone to spoon with? “Or fork.” Even so, “there is somewhat of a sexual undertone to a lot of songs,” she says. “I’m a grown woman [laughs].” • Read full story…

Earlier this week, we reported that Cobra Starship are working with “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi on their new album. Well, now it turns out that they’re working with another prime-time star: Leighton Meester from “Gossip Girl.”
On Thursday, Cobra frontman Gabe Saporta, DioGuardi and Meester — who debuted a song called “Birthday” last week — spent time in a Los Angeles studio working on a remix of a song called “I Make Good Girls Go Bad,” which Saporta and DioGuardi had originally written for CS’s new album. • Read full story…
